Her paper reviewed the UN Human Rights Framework as a means of identifying those international instruments and regional and national mechanisms that the media can use to support citizen empowerment. The main example used of such national mechanisms was freedom of information (FOI) legislation (which has been enacted in five Caribbean territories in the UNIC AOR). She was also a resource person for the subsequent workshop session that discussed strategies for using FOI and similar laws to support greater freedom of expression, particular through news reporting and as a means of citizen empowerment. | | | 4 files found for this year | |
