International Peacekeepers Day :
Women in Peacekeeping

International Day of Peacekeepers was established by General Assembly resolution 57/129 in 2002 to pay tribute to “all men and women who have served and continue to serve in United Nations peacekeeping operations for their high level of professionalism, dedication and courage, and to honour the memory of those who have lost their lives in the cause of peace.” Over the years, UN peacekeeping has evolved to meet the demands of different conflicts and changing political landscapes.

The importance of women's participation in all aspects of peacekeeping acknowledged in General Assembly Resolution 1325 (2000), which addresses the impact of war on women and stresses the importance of women's participation in all aspects of United Nations peacekeeping operations.

In 2009, the UN focuses on the significance of women in international peacekeeping.
